Caring for your pet just got easier. A handy new phone app Animal Organiser enables pet owners to have all vital information about their animals at their fingertips. Basics such as vaccination records, health history, chip numbers and appointment reminders can all be stored on the app. But it’s much more fun than that.

Animal Organiser allows owners to plot their favourite walks with maps and then share amongst family and friends along with pictures and video clips of their beloved animals. There’s even a facility to enter your pets’ birthdays so there will no excuse to forget them again.

‘I wanted to put a bit of fun into it,’ said Jonathan Carr, Veterinary Surgeon at Teignview Veterinary Group. ‘As a practice, we always like to offer something different and extra for our clients and their animals. We realised just how useful an Animal Organiser would be to them. Owners now have all their pet information to hand, whenever and wherever they are.’

But there’s a more serious aspect to Animal Organiser, remembering to give your pet medications regularly and on time is often crucial to safe and efficacious treatment. As well as default reminders for vaccination and worming the new app enables the owner to set up bespoke reminders at different times of day to ensure medications are given accurately. The pet’s information stored on the App can be shared between different family members using a PIN code, that way everyone in the family knows what is going on.Future upgrades will include more specialised modules for Diabetes and epilepsy

‘Compliance is a very important issue, especially with conditions like diabetes that need possibly multiple daily doses. And by sharing the vital information between family and friends, animals could be taken care of easily in case of emergency.

Setting up the information required to contact your local vet means in an emergency it can be a simple button push to contact your vet at a time of stress, but again there is more…you can set up to email, text or ring your practice for appointments. There is also the facility to input the name of the vet you normally see, this improves continuity of care and again is important in the increasingly complicated treatment programs used in modern practice. Many clients use more than one vet, for example specialists in certain areas of treatment, again this information can be stored to make contact easier.

The lost and found function is very simple to use and enables owners to post lost pets including photos and chip numbers in a local area, this should also be especially useful for veterinary practices, all have lists of animals lost or found in a local area, the problem is the information is usually in a diary where no one can access the information easily. It is now possible to post these animals onto the app and increase their visibility and hopefully get the pets rehomed back to the proper owner.

Jonathan chose Createanet, Torquay’s premier app developer, to build Animal Organiser as they too are based in the South West. Face to face contact and building relationships between local businesses is an important facet of any project especially as the project develops in the medium term.

‘It’s such an obvious app for any pet owner,’ said Kevin King, Createanet’s director. ‘We really enjoyed working with Jonathan on this project. I’m already using it myself on our family dog.’
Createanet were granted App developer status by Apple two years ago and their app division is reporting record business. Recent successes include two apps with extensive video for the Ashburton Cookery School and also two new games for skittles enthusiasts commissioned by Torquay’s Shoot Out Club.
