That’s always been the ambition of Paignton marketer and website designer Kevin King… but nothing can come higher than his latest business contract with Mel Gibson.
The superstar’s company Icon Movies has chosen Kevin’s company, Createanet, to design a number of websites for his business network within the film industry.
“It’s the real big one and living proof that it doesn’t matter where you are based, you can still aim high and achieve major contracts,” said a delighted Kevin.
But the incredible success story doesn’t end there because off the back of the contract, Createanet, based in Torquay Road, Paignton, was invited by Icon Movies to produce a mini website for its latest film – Rules of Attraction.
The blockbuster movie, due to be released on March 28th, boasts a star-studded cast including James Van Beek (star of Dawson’s Creek), Kate Bosworth, Shannyn Sossaman, Jessica Biel and Kip Pardue.
The film was recently given a major boost on the hit TV evening programme V Graham Norton – a show to which Kevin had been invited to contribute materials from the website which he had prepared.
It was back in 1995 that Mel Gibson launched Icon Entertainment International to boost his own films but over the years the company has expanded and now boasts many different business networks, including Icon Film Distribution and Icon Movies.
The distribution company – which mainly handles Paramount Films, was launched in 2001 by Gibson and his business partner Bruce Davey.
In 1996 Davey co-produced and Gibson directed the epic period drama, Braveheart, which won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
Icon Movies produce almost one film a month and Kevin and the Createanet team are hopeful that they will be invited to produce mini websites for many more films.
“We were approached by Cineserve, the project management company for Icon Movies to produce a website for Rules of Attraction in the quickest possible time and we pulled out all the stops to achieve that target,” Kevin explained.
One of Icon Movies most popular films last year was Black Ball starring Mel Smith, which the company described as being filmed in the ‘sleepy town of Torquay.’
Meanwhile Kevin and the team are putting the final touches to the Icon Film Distribution website for Mel Gibson – a dynamic site that includes details of the latest releases, a film library, press room and information on films due to be screened later in the year.
